A pocket storyboard notebook

My PocketMod storyboard notebookCliff Atkinson, the author of Beyond Bullet Points (a “must” in a presenter’s bookshelf) wrote about a tip he got on how to create your own mini story board, using the webiste Pocket Mod.

And since I was born curious and have to try everything out, I quickly created my own version and found my scissors and after a second attempt and watching the 30 second instruction video got my own little pocket story board. Brilliant! I have a Moleskine storyboard notebook, but sometimes you’re working on a specific defined project or just doodeling – not wanting to waste pages in the Moleskine.

The Post-It note trick

I think David Gray’s tip on how to get sticky note to “stick flat” to the wall is brilliant… All my sticky notes on my white board are now beautifully flat!

The ultimate notebook solution?

I always loved paper stores and notebooks. Coming from Sweden, I really miss stores like Ordning&Reda and Bookbinders Design here in California. I have stacks of notebooks –  and can just keep them around empty, ready to be used when I feel like it. I love my Moleskins and carry a small one in my purse all the time and have larger ones on my desk.

All my notebooks have to be blank and plain – no rules or squares to narrow my thoughts.

Then a couple of weeks ago I saw a tweet (and now I can’t even remember by whom!) about Behance - and found my way to the Creatives Outfitter page where I found the Dot Grid Book.

The ultimate solution – blank, ruled and squared at the same time! It arrived today in a nice package. Love it! The paper is thick and feels great. I love the fact that you can detach the sheets – and detach the holes too. It’s beautiful! Now I just have to await some creativity to come my way so I can start using it.

The smell of crayons

crayolaFor years I didn’t know how much I had missed this smell. The smell of crayons. And the feeling of opening a brand new box of Crayola crayons, in new colors (and with funny creative names even though I never realized the beauty of the names until recently). When do you throw out your crayons? When you become a teenager?

My house is once again filled with crayons and sometimes I manage to sneak away some and smell them and check their names. And when someone isn’t watching, I might actually draw with them, practicing my Dan Roam sketching techniques in bright colors. One of these days I’m going to Michael’s and get my own set, that I will hide from the rest of the house…
